About

I’m Patrick Lawrence, the human responsible for Rocket 77. I’ve spent decades in fine art, illustration, and graphic design — long enough to have picked up genuine expertise alongside a truly impressive stockpile of obsolete knowledge.

My work is fueled by a magpie’s appetite for art history, human history, and the tools artists have used to make sense of both. I’m particularly drawn to the collision point where old and new methods crash into each other — paint meeting pixels, centuries-old visual languages getting rewired by new machinery, careful study colliding with happy accidents. Some of my best ideas have shown up looking like mistakes.

Rocket 77 is where all of that gets bolted together — paintings, illustrations, stories, experiments, and the occasional unlicensed expedition into the future. The work is serious. I just refuse to be solemn about it. History is already crowded with grim-faced people in serious portraits.
